LAESA-SHPE at the City College of New York

Throughout the years we have realized that, as individuals we can only influence so many people but as a group our potential is infinite. LAESA-SHPE influences engineering students at The City College of New York and in the community as well. Our programs inspire and encourage young Hispanics to pursue careers in math, science, technology and engineering. Our goal is to build the pipeline of future potential engineers. We have hosted sixteen successful Pre-College Engineering Day (PCED) events, where high school students come to network, exchange ideas, showcase their talent, explore the college and the different engineering majors. Also we have hosted FIRST LEGO League (FLL) for the past eight years. FLL is a hands-on program for middle school kids, which uses challenges based on real world scientific problems to engage children in research, problem solving, and engineering. Last semester we hosted the official Manhattan FLL Qualifier with an attendance of over 300 students. These programs are updated each semester and provide vital services to our members, high school students and the Hispanic community of New York City. We hope to continue serving our members and our community to the best of our abilities now and well in the future.

If you want to help us or volunteer for the 2011 FIRST Lego League Manhattan Qualifiers, please email us at eboard@laesa-shpe.org
